An institution is a hothouse and the university, which should be a cool place, is no exception. It is both threatened and sustained by passions and moods, intrigues and power games. Can photography be factual and capture a frame of mind? Can there be redemption from sin in writing? The Academic Yearis the first in a series of books at the intersection of photography and literature. Born out of the experience of the ongoing SPBH Pamphlet series, the first iteration of this new series takes the form of a long ongoing collaboration between London-based artist Rut Blees Luxemburg and philosopher Alexander García Düttmann, who teaches aesthetics at the University of Arts, Berlin.
