Perimeter Talks - Fukase Ravens

Perimeter is thrilled to continue its new programming initiative for 2017: Perimeter Talks. Taking place approximately once a month on a weekend afternoon, the series features lectures, panel discussions and more casual in-conversations with publishers, artists, curators, designers, writers and editors. The talks explore and address various themes and issues relating to contemporary photographic, art and design publishing – helping demystify, challenge and offer insight into publishing as a medium and a practice.

Our third talk for 2017 sees Daniel Boetker-Smith (director of the Asia Pacific Photobook Archive and academic director of PSC) and respected photographer, curator and educator Dr Kristian Haggblom examine the legacy, impact and historical and cultural contexts underscoring late Japanese photographer Masahisa Fukase's legendary book Ravens. Recently republished by MACK (London) as a facsimile of the 1984 original, Ravens is widely considered as a formative work in the scope of the contemporary Japanese photobooks, and one of the most important additions to the photobook's wider international vernacular.

The event will double as the offical launch for Ravens in Australia.
