Hokkaido-based photographer and outdoor guide Junki Yarinome presents a body of work developed through ongoing fieldwork in Eastern Hokkaido. Since 2021, he has been entering the local snow-covered mountains on foot, documenting his experiences while combining ascent and descent through snowboarding.
The mountains of Eastern Hokkaido are defined by a distinct natural environment and ecosystem, where traces of a primordial landscape remain. Within this space—where stillness and severity coexist—physical movement gradually transforms into an internal journey.
