Based in West Cornwall, CT, Carl D'Alvia is known for his bronze, marble, and resin sculptures that range from the abstract and geometric to the figurative and anthropomorphic. This first book of the artist’s drawings spans over thirty years of the artist’s career; from sketchbooks and artist’s renderings of large outdoor pieces, to early figurative explorations and contemporary abstract pieces all in a variety of mediums: pencil, Bic ballpoint pen, charcoal and ink. Along with a show of the same name on view at Dashwood Projects Feb 19 thru March 22, 2025 they delve into the evolution of the artists’ sculptural techniques and the emergence of some of his best know tropes or characters.

From the essay Leaving Us a Paper Trail by Dina Wright: 'Some drawings feel delicate and airy, their simplicity crisp and neat. These elegant, singular works exude a sense of stillness, reflecting the artist’s affinity for calm. They echo the atmosphere of his studio, nestled deep within the landscape and tucked away from unnecessary clamour.  Other works are as dense as a forest, showcasing endless scratchings and erasures.  The inky abyss swallows you in whole, suggesting that the act of removal is just as revealing as creation itself.  Balking at minimalism whilst taking aim at figuration, Carl has always threaded the needle between seriousness and sappiness, object and idea.'
