Growing up, my parents made sure we shared every meal together. They wanted us to understand the importance of family time and create a space to share about our lives, but an unspoken rule forbade us from speaking of unpleasant things at the dinner table. My memories of family meals are silent. Biting the Hand that Feeds You is a letter to my mom – an attempt to begin sharing the things we have kept from each other, out of fear we might hurt each other. I am sharing with her moments of joy and love. I am admitting to moments of homesickness and defeat. – Anh Nguyen
