What is an Art Book Fair?: Art Book Fairs as Recent Cultural Phenomena
Saturday August 29, 1pm–2pm

Compared to commercial art fairs that began in the 1960s, art book fairs are fairly new cultural phenomena, with the first of its kind being the Printed Matter Art Book Fair in New York City held exactly 20 years ago.

Since then, art book fairs have been sprouting up across the world, each one borrowing ideas from the other, while responding to the political and cultural conditions of their individual and unique geography.

This conversation features two central voices all familiar with the behind-the-scenes of running an art book fair – Gloria Glitzer (Moritz, Germany), and Dan Rule (Perimeter Editions, Australia) – inviting them to reflect on its language and history that is constantly changing and still being written to this day.
