Perimeter Talks | Curating for Publication

Perimeter is thrilled to continue its programming initiative Perimeter Talks in 2018. Taking place approximately once a month, the series features lectures, panel discussions and more casual in-conversations with publishers, artists, curators, designers, writers and editors. The talks explore and address various themes and issues relating to contemporary photographic, art and design publishing – helping demystify, challenge and offer insight into publishing as a medium and a practice.

Our tenth talk for 2018, Curating for Publication, will focus on various modes of curatorial practice, including outcomes relative to printed matter, publication and exhibition design, and will also consider publishing from an institutional perspective and as a platform for critical engagement and reflection. The discussion will take form as a conversation between Elias Redstone and Hannah Mathews.

Elias Redstone is an independent curator, writer and editor. Recent exhibitions include Chen Wei: The Club (Centre for Contemporary Photography, 2017), Modern Forms (Architectural Association, 2016), Constructing Worlds: Photography and Architecture in the Modern Age (Barbican Art Gallery, 2014), Lesser Known Architecture (Design Museum, 2013) and the touring exhibition Archizines. His book Shooting Space: Architecture in Contemporary Photography is published by Phaidon.

Hannah Mathews is senior curator at Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA). Hannah has worked with contemporary art organisations such as Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne (ACCA), Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) and the Sydney Biennale, as well as working prolifically as an independent project initiator and director. She has an impressive track record of ambitious projects including Framed Movements, (ACCA, 2014), Action/Response (Dance Massive Festival, 2013), Power to the People: Contemporary Conceptualism and the Object in Art, (ACCA, 2011), as well as NEW 11 (ACCA) and Primavera 2008 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney.
