Perimeter Editions x CCP | CCP.PE.Z003+4 Zine Launch

Perimeter Editions and the Centre for Contemporary Photography (CCP) are excited to announce CCP.PE.ZINE, a new collaborative publishing initiative dedicated to providing a platform for emerging photographic artists to exhibit their work in an accessible zine format. Each zine in the series – launched periodically in pairs – focuses on a single body of work by artists selected by the CCP.

After launching the first two zines in the series, from Minami Ivory and Nik Ranepura, back in August, we are delighted to be launching the following pair: Yask Desai – Shimla and Ryley Clarke – Tomorrow. Join us on Saturday October 11 at Perimeter Books (734 High St, Thornbury) from 3pm, where we will be launching the two zines with a brief introduction by Perimeter and CCP, artist signings, and a casual celebration to follow. We hope to see you there!

ABOUT THE ZINES

CCP.PE.Z003 Yask Desai – Shimla

As a child I spent considerable time in the city of Shimla in Northern India where my father was a research scholar at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study. A visit to the Indian Coffee House some three kilometres walk away was often a part of our late afternoon routine. Now more than 40 years later it endures, largely unchanged. Its atmosphere, patrons, and political conversations remain, preserved as a workers’ cooperative born from colonial exclusion. It continues to function as an informal public space where democratic debate and the creation of cultural capital are sustained outside of an institutional setting. My work traces its continuity as a quiet civic monument and acknowledges both the personal and national history that it embodies. – Yask Desai

Yask Desai is a Melbourne-based Australian-Indian visual artist who works with photography, video, archives and text.

CCP.PE.Z004 Ryley Clarke – Tomorrow

'Tomorrow' explores my experiences of the world. I am drawn to chaos and contradictions, and to moments of instability and upheaval. In searching for a bittersweet understanding of these experiences, this zine reflects the desire to understand an ever-shifting world of uncertainty and affective moments that shape me. It is equal parts a cinematic coming of age story, and an observational look at a past still not fully comprehended. – Ryley Clarke

Ryley Clarke is a visual storyteller, photographer, and filmmaker based in Melbourne, Australia.
