Perimeter Editions x CCP | CCP.PE.Z.009+10 Zine Launch
Perimeter Editions and the Centre for Contemporary Photography (CCP) are pleased to share the latest releases from CCP.PE.ZINE, a collaborative publishing initiative dedicated to providing a platform for emerging photographic artists to exhibit their work in an accessible zine format. Each zine in the series – launched periodically in pairs – focuses on a single body of work by artists selected by the CCP.
To launch the latest zines CCP.PE.Z.009 Hanako Muller – Family Sleeping and CCP.PE.Z.010 Ruth O'Leary – Hidden Mothers, join us at Perimeter Books from 6pm, Friday October 9. The launch will feature a brief introduction by Perimeter and CCP, artist signings, and a casual celebration to follow. We hope to see you there!

ABOUT THE ZINES
CCP.PE.Z.009 Hanako Muller – Family Sleeping
‘Family Sleeping’ is an evolving body of work that gently considers the role photographs play in memory consolidation and our understanding of familial relationships. Using images from my family archive, I merge my own work within these moments as a way to explore how our individual timelines, experiences and lives can begin to morph and overlap when we are provided with visual reminders that bear a sense of familiarity. Finding echoes within intergenerational imagery, I look for comfort in photography's ability to disrupt our linear perception of time and blur the distance between lives. – Hanako Muller
Hanako Muller is an emerging artist living on unceded Wurundjeri land. Her work explores themes of connection and identity with personal reflections on adolescence, queerness and memory. Using photography as a process to piece together stories and relationships, Hanako considers the ways in which we are shaped by the people and spaces that surround us.
CCP.PE.Z.010 Ruth O’Leary – Hidden Mothers
'Hidden Mothers' takes its title and conceptual framework from Victorian-era photography, where mothers were concealed beneath draped fabric to photograph their children. This historical practice of maternal erasure became my point of departure for a sustained critique of idealised maternal iconography throughout art history. Shot in photo-booths around Melbourne in this series I appropriate the Victorian veil and transform it through painted fabric that renders the maternal body hypervisible rather than concealed. My torso becomes a surface inscribed with witches, washing machines, ravens, and clocks - domestic objects and mythic figures that constitute the visual lexicon through which motherhood is culturally inscribed. These loaded symbols form a counter-iconography that speaks to the materiality of maternal experience: its embodied labour, its corporeal presence, its dialectic of creation and erasure. – Ruth O’Leary
Ruth O'Leary is an artist based in Naarm, Australia. Her work explores maternal self-documentation – spanning gestation, birth, child-rearing, and aging – addressing art history’s systematic erasure of motherhood as lived experience.
