Through Ambient Pressure (published Tall Poppy Press, 2023) Rebecca Najdowski draws attention to how photography has ‘framed’ nature. Through manipulating prints, negatives and images, Najdowski’s final images are substantially altered, highlighting that photographs themselves are constructions and limited in their representation. With text extracts from Tom Comitta’s The Nature Book, Ambient Pressure challenges audiences to become more conscious of how they see the more-than-human world and is a work that is deeply appreciative of photography’s surface. Rather than being limited by the flatness of the medium, Najdowski dives in, creating a book that revels in how photographs are inherently two-dimensional, building depth precisely by emphasising the constraints of the medium.

88 pages, 25.4 x 20.3 cm, exposed spine binding, Tall Poppy Press (Melbourne).
